Does Proactiv Treat Acne?

Over the years Natural Acne Clinic treated hundreds of clients, many of who have tried Proactiv unsuccessfully. There is also a high number of clients who ask us about it, would it work, should they try it and if they tried it, why didn’t it work for them?

Do you know YOUR primary acne cause? Still struggling with an unsure self-diagnosis?

We created a short quiz to help you Discover YOUR Complexion Causes

Generally speaking, Proactiv is a good start for those wanting to treat acne, also the science behind it is good which is why it works for some people. But for those who have more stubborn acne, it usually does not work. If you have tried Proactiv, have you noticed that it stops working after about 3 weeks? Why is this you ask. Here is why:

    1. Since the experts at Proactiv never get to see your skin or talk to you about how your skin is adapting or responding to the products, they cannot make educated or effective recommendations on the strength of products your skin needs. They pretty much give the same products to everybody, rather than customizing regimen as we do at Natural Acne Clinic.

    1. For the most part, Proactiv products are not strong enough to moderate severe or stubborn acne. Sometimes, it may be strong enough for the first few weeks but then the results start to taper off and your skin starts to go back to how it was. What naturally occurs within the skin is that it “gets used to” the regimen you are using and goes into “maintenance” mode instead of “improvement” or “results-driven” mode.

    1. For example, if you were wanting to bulk up at the gym you would increase the amount of weight you lift each time you went to the gym in order to see the muscles start to grow and get stronger. If you lifted the same 20 pounds for two months, would you see any increase in muscle? NO! The skin responds the same way…in order to make improvements to your skin (versus just maintaining its current state), you must increase the strength of your products every 2 weeks. This is why having an Acne Specialist to guide you through an Online Acne Program that works is imperative.

There are two types of acne: inflamed and non-inflamed. Acne clearing ingredients such as salicylic acid, glycolic acid, Vitamin A, BPO, mandelic acid, etc. all have very specific functions. Some are exfoliating which is what is needed for non-inflamed acne. Some are anti-inflammatory and antibacterial which is what is needed for inflamed acne.

You should always be using the right types of products to treat YOUR type of acne…not just any kind of acne. Proactiv is a one-size-fits-all product line that does not allow for customized products to treat your skin of acne, especially if you have a combination of inflamed and non-inflamed, which is the case most of the time.

Overall, if you feel a bit lost, we got your back. Here, at Natural Acne Clinic, we have qualified Acne Coaches who will be ready to guide you toward clearer skin. Book an Online Acne Consult today- a 60-minute in-depth call or in-person appointment with one of our Acne Coaches.
